International Symposium on Biotechnologies in G.B. Pant University,Pantnagar

Introduction:

Agriculture, including animal husbandry practices, is considered man’s oldest profession while biotechnology is globally recognized as man’s second profession aiming to improve productivity, economy and human health. The demand for food, especially of animal origin will increase manifold with increasing human population. However, animal productivity is greatly upset by poor reproductive efficiency that poses great economic loss to farmers and dairy industry. The reproductive biotechnologies have played an important role in improving reproductive efficiency through use of the technologies, e.g. early puberty, synchronization of estrus, fixed time AI, pregnancy diagnosis, induction of parturition, embryo transfer, ovum pick up, cloning and transgenesis, etc. Thus, it is the need of the hour to further harness the fruits of these technologies to increase contribution from livestock sector. It is with this intention that the proposed symposium on “Biotechnologies for optimization of reproductive efficiency of farm & companion animals to improve global food security & human health” is being held. The convention will present a unique platform for interaction with the choicest blend of teachers, researchers, field veterinarians, extension workers, policy makers, industry representatives and farmers.
