Youth ideas for Rio+20

Make your voice heard at the upcoming historical UN summit on sustainable development (also known as ‘Rio+20′). On June 4-6, 2012, world leaders will gather in Rio de Janeiro for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking Earth Summit of 1992. We hope they will agree on radical plans to move the world from the unsustainable production and consumption patterns that are killing our planet and the people living in it to a new, clean green economy – essential for any of our generation who are planning to live beyond 2050.

World Leadership Conference 2011

The World Leadership Conference 2011 is a unique 5-day conference which aims to equip youths with relevant skills and knowledge on the issues of sustainable development and climate change. Youths from the Asia-Pacific are encouraged to engage in lively debate and think critically about the issues that are facing the region today. It is also a great opportunity to meet like-minded peers from around Asia-Pacific and to establish lasting friendships and partnerships with students and volunteers from environmental organizations in the region. It is set to be held in Singapore from the 11th to the 15th of July 2011.

Overview of Competition

Building towards WLC 2011 in July 2011, we would like to invite students from all tertiary institutions in Singapore to submit a paper on their views on any of the three proposed themes under the WLC 2011. Each group can be comprised of 1 to 3 students (maximum 3). The paper should be based on the context of Singapore, with reference to external case studies to substantiate your views.

The three proposed themes are:

1.Energy for a Low Carbon Future
2.Environmental Law and Governance
3.Green Economy to Eradicate Poverty

Prizes

All proposal submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges. The best 5 papers of each theme will be showcased during WLC 2011, and the winning groups will be invited to the conference to learn and discuss pertinent issues surrounding climate change with individuals from Asia-Pacific. The winning group of each theme will also get an opportunity to present their paper during WLC 2011, as well as an exclusive chance to network with the top industry leaders of the environmental sector.

Relevant and creative ideas from the proposals submitted will also be included in the combined position paper of the Asia Pacific region, which will be showcased at the Rio+20 Summit in 2012 as well as at the immediate 17th Session on the Conference of Parties.

The paper should include at least 500 words (excluding supporting documents and appendix) and it should be in MS Word format.

HPAIR 2011 Asia conference

The HPAIR 2011 Asia Conference seeks to bring together future and current leaders from around the world to engage in a five-day dialogue, addressing the events that have helped to shape the current status of Asia on the world stage. The conference will challenge its participants to think critically about questions surrounding Asia’s future.

In the wake of the recent global financial recession, what should Asia do to recover from and prevent similar meltdowns in the future? How should Asia respond to the threat of nuclear proliferation in North Korea and military instability in other parts of the world? How can Asian countries preserve their traditions while the pressures of globalization push them towards modernization? What roles should governments and businesses play in bridging the numerous expanding gaps found both between and within nations?

As we turn the corner on the first decade of the 21st century, the decisions made today will prove critical to the success of Asia tomorrow.

1st International Summit on Youth Social Entrepreneurship

Youth Venture, Ashoka Social Entrepreneurs Mexico and Central America, is organizing the 1st International Summit on Youth Social Entrepreneurshipthat will be held at the Tec de Monterrey, Campus Ciudad de México, in Mexico City in September 1-2nd, 2011.

The theme of the upcoming Summit is: Dream it! Do it! Building potential. It intends to be a space for exchange of experiences, formation and business models, success stories in order to build the entrepreneurial capabilities in youth.

During the Summit young social entrepreneurs will have the chance to tell their stories as a part of one of three panels: Environment and Technology; Culture; and, Education.

Thus we are inviting interested individuals that are members of groups of youth, between the ages 14 and 27, who have had a success in implementing a high-impact social venture with at least 2 years of experience, to send us the applications until June 18th.

 

How to Apply:

Interested individuals and groups must turn in the following documents by June 18th, 2011:

- Registration Form.

- A detailed project description and results measuring the project’s impact. The description must answer the following questions:

1. Describe the community/-ies in which the project has been implemented.

2. What is the problem that you have targeted? How and why did you identify this specific problem?

3. What inspired your idea? What caused you to take action?

4. Describe how the project benefits your community. Who and how many people are benefited by the project?

5. What are the project’s long-term and short-term objectives and goals?

6. How do you measure your impact? How do you know if the project has achieved its objectives and goals?

7. How/where do you imagine the project in three years?

8. How do you recruit new members? How do you keep team members and volunteers motivated?

9. How are new leaders designated?

10. How do you finance your project?

- Also, a letter of intent in which each team member explains in one paragraph their personal motivation for being involved and why they consider the project as a success which should be presented as part of a panel before an international audience.

Global Initiatives Symposium 2011(GIS Taiwan)

Model United Nations Conference, AMIMUN’11

Amity University, Uttar Pradesh is organizing its first Model United Nations Conference, AMIMUN’11. Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC) 2010

Introduction:

Government of India is hosting the Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC) 2010 from October 27-29, 2010 on the theme of ‘Up-scaling and Mainstreaming Renewables for Energy Security, Climate Change and Economic Development”.

DIREC 2010 is the fourth in the series of global Ministerial-level Conferences on Renewable Energy, which follows from the initiative taken at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, acknowledging the significance of renewable energy for sustainable development. DIREC 2010 is an international platform for government, private sector, and civil society leaders to jointly address the goal of advancing renewable energy. It will build upon the success and outcomes of the previous events in Washington in 2008, Beijing in 2005 and Bonn in 2004.
